On a beautiful sunny (and just a tiny little bit windy) Thursday, Shop Til You Drop Magazine invited me to a lunch at Pink Salt at Double Bay for the Shop 2011 Genius Awards. I got there a tad early, so I went to the wharf and relaxed a bit (I'll blog up some photos in the next post). It was the first ever Genius Awards, and will continue to be an annual event. Shop Til You Drop, is a magazine that helps women shop and finding the best products, covering the entire market of fashion, beauty and homewares for the real life. It was only natural they created the Genius Awards.
Basically the concept of the awards, is that the magazine selects the best of the best new products in the market that they think isn't just cool, but "Genius" or as Justine Cullen ( Editor ) says, "Fucking Genius," that is breakthrough in style and innovation. Among the winners, include Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy, Acne Pistol Short Boots, Friend of Mine Brenda Bodysuit, Levi's Curve ID Demi Curve Classic Rise Slim Leg, Kikki.K Norrmalm Bag, House of Harlow 1960 Chelsea sunglasses, Voodoo Boot tights and many more. Some of my personal favourites would be the Blackberry Playbook (which is extremely addicting and perfectly small and big enough to play with), Vapur Anti-Bottle, a reusable water bottle which can be folded and can be flat, great to carry in a bag and not take up too much space, and also the Nespresso Pixie, which is just another perfect sized coffee machine great for anywhere (take a look of the product at the launch party I went to here)
It was a lovely lunch event, which I thought was a sit down lunch at first, but turned out to be tasty canapes including, fried boneless chicken wings with oyster sauce, fried cheese risotto balls, Salt and pepper squid, mini pink pancake with trout roe and dill crème friache, mixed berry crumble, passion fruit meringue tart. It was an intimate event not too many people, with the room filled with pink and scent of beautiful flowers from Poho. We were served yummy watermelon martini (but as Maude Garrett- host, says, tasted quite like a sponged out cupcake mix flavour .. MMM), a refreshing drink for the day while browsing the winning products.
It was great meeting Justine, I have always been following her tweets and they are often quite funny! So is her personal blog. Also love how her son got photographed by The Sartorialist, here. I've always thought she has been the perfect editor for Shop Til You Drop, being a single mum, she knows what mums need yet still able to understand and relate to what the young single ladies want.
Have a watch of the short video I recorded of Justine talking a little about how they came up with the idea of the Genius Awards and about some of the products that were awarded. You can also read more about the products on the Shop Til You Drop August Issue out today with Olivia Palermo on the cover as well!
