MODEL DIARY: BENJAMIN ASHLEY

Here is the first Model Diary ever on my blog. I really think it gives readers an insight into the different worlds models get involved into.

So, as you know, modelling in Australia, only gives you so much. It's when you step out of the island and into Europe or America that you start getting recognised and gain more opportunities.

I worked with Ben on a few shoots mostly for fun and mini projects like ones for Edition (blog post here) and Mimco (blog post here). I knew from the first time I saw him that his androgynous look was take him into a different field. We all know how androgynous is very popular right now. The picture above is from a recent shoot, that he can't remember where it was from because of the vast amount of work he does daily.

Now he's in London modeling there for the first time.
It was funny, how I found that in the modelling apartment, they name each other by country rather than names. That was quite funny to me.

So here is his diary entry (didn't edit it, keeping it raw):

    BENJAMIN ASHLEY WRITES:

" cool, so the run down: being in london... its big, cold, frantic and have killer foxes everywhere. i couldn't think of a better place to be.. its due to snow end of the week and I'm hell keen, the only flaw is in my wardrobe.. who would've thought that cut-outs of metal band shirts would only go so far? even my leather is rendered useless in the breeze of -1 celcius.. shit its cold here, although everyone here in this city is fashionable and stereotypically seem to meet the requirements of warmth with style quite well, which was something that really smacked me in the face firstly arriving. from the nuns to the kids, even the lad-chavs walk with swagger that australia lags.. the shops are expensive, but head out to some of your local markets to score some vintage bargains and youre sweet as balls..

the modelling here is intense. living with a few french-canadians (vogue italia, mens fitness), some dude from new orleans (american crew) and some youngster from the north of england (repping for burberry, asos, and god knows what else.. these are all just the jobs they scored this week). RIP- vinci from puerto rico (georgio armani), who made his way back home yesterday. ive managed to score my lucks worth work-wise, but we will find that out when its printed to the public.. campaign(s)? who knows?

castings, go sees, meetings and photoshoots all slide in to one big colourful blur of fun and fatigue..
cigarettes are cheap, women are cheaper, and the convienience stores sell 6 fosters for 5 quid EVERYWHERE..
this place is balls deep in abundances of cool, sophistication, amazing photo studios and even more amazing catering. getting facials, manicures, your hair done, wearing attire worth more than a years salary and doing all this while watching the beautiful naked women.... has never tasted so sweet.

rock on ace, rock on australia x benjamin ashley x "
